What is freethought?

Freethought is the philosophical position that one's views ought not to be held dogmatically on the basis of tradition and authority but rather ought to be formed through the critical application of reason.


What is the Freethought Association?

We are a student group of the SSMU (Students' Society of McGill University) with the mandate of promoting freethought on campus.  We aim to do this by providing information to students in the form of guest lectures (often organized jointly with the Centre for Inquiry Montréal), discussion groups, outings, etc.  As part of our mandate we also aim to be a meeting point for atheists and agnostics on campus, and to create a forum to address local and global issues from the perspective of a freethinker.
